Apples

Orchard farm

?

150,000 tons of cider apples and pears are collected from Agrial’s Producer Organisation for processing. This represents most of the apples processed by Agrial’s Beverage division. As far as possible, bio-control products are used like essential oils or the introduction of natural enemy insects and birds

Agrial cooperative

?

Agrial’s producer organisation for fruit for processing federates 600 farmers in the north-west of France. Agrial helps its members implement better performing and more environmentally friendly orchard practices: technical, business and administrative advice, alternative co-financing techniques and precision tools like RIMPro Web to anticipate disease, and the installation of beehives to improve pollination and encourage biodiversity.

?

The remaining apple marc is recycled as animal feed or for energy recovery. The wastewater from rinsing the apples is used for farm spraying.

Cider factory

?

Over 80% of the apples come from orchards less than 200km from the cider factories. Harvested fully ripe in autumn, the apples are delivered to the cider factory and pressed within 48 hours of their delivery, after checking and rinsing. The juice is stored in vats and fermented for several weeks. Then comes blending by cellar-masters who combine different juices to create the Ecusson, Loïc Raison Kerisac and La Mordue ciders.

Other industries

?

The pectin and seeds from apple marc generated from pressing apples is used in other industries.

Supermarkets and catering

?

Agrial’s Beverage division sells different products made with apples: ciders under the Ecusson, Loïc Raison, Kerisac and La Mordue brands and apple juices from La Passion du Verger. It also produces Seattle Cider branded cider and compotes and organic cider vinegar under the North Coast brand in the United States. It also produces dairy fresh fruit juice drinks under the Danao brand.
